Day 1 – Arrival in Sri Lanka

Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.

Your guide will welcome you at the airport and assist with the transfer to your hotel. The first stop of the journey is usually Negombo, a coastal town located close to the airport.

Negombo offers a relaxing atmosphere with palm-lined beaches and a vibrant fishing community. Travelers can enjoy a peaceful evening after their flight and begin adjusting to the tropical climate of Sri Lanka.

Depending on arrival time, visitors may explore the local fish market, walk along the beach or simply relax at the hotel.

After breakfast the journey continues toward the Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka.

This region contains some of the most important historical and archaeological sites in the country.

On the way travelers will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, one of Sri Lanka’s most impressive Buddhist temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The temple complex consists of several caves decorated with beautiful murals and more than one hundred Buddha statues. The cave paintings date back many centuries and represent important moments from the life of Buddha.

After visiting Dambulla the tour continues to the Sigiriya area where travelers will stay overnight surrounded by peaceful countryside landscapes.

Early in the morning visitors climb the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of the most iconic landmarks in Sri Lanka.

This ancient palace and fortress was built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa and rises nearly 200 meters above the surrounding plains.

The climb to the summit passes beautiful water gardens, the famous Sigiriya frescoes and the ancient Mirror Wall. From the top travelers can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the jungle and countryside.

Later in the day the tour continues to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka and features well preserved ruins including temples, royal palaces and large Buddha statues carved from stone.

Exploring the ancient city offers fascinating insights into Sri Lanka’s rich historical heritage.

After breakfast the journey continues toward the central highlands of Sri Lanka.

Along the way travelers will stop at a spice garden in Matale, where various spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and pepper are grown. Visitors can learn about traditional Sri Lankan spices and their uses in cooking and medicine.

The tour then continues to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka.

Kandy is home to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most important Buddhist temples in the world. The temple houses a sacred relic believed to be a tooth of Buddha and attracts pilgrims from many countries.

In the evening visitors can enjoy a traditional Kandyan cultural dance performance, which includes colorful costumes and traditional drumming.

Today the tour continues into the scenic hill country.

The road winds through mountains and lush green tea plantations offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes.

Visitors will stop at a tea factory and plantation to learn how the world-famous Ceylon Tea is produced. The visit includes an explanation of the tea processing stages and an opportunity to taste freshly brewed tea.

The journey then continues to Nuwara Eliya, a charming mountain town often called “Little England” due to its colonial architecture and cool climate.

Visitors can explore Gregory Lake, the colonial buildings and beautiful gardens that make this town unique.
